Living for many years in the Mimbres River Valley and conducting astrological vision quest groups in Chaco Canyon awakened my curiosity about what happened to the Chaco culture, otherwise known as the Anasazi. Inspired by the work of Stephen Lekson, in his book The Chaco Meridian (1999), this is what seems to have happened: An egalitarian and gylanic Neolithic culture lived throughout the western and southwestern United States.

End of Hierarchy?

What could this mean, to eliminate power over others and ‘false’ classes and hierarchies? Societies around the world show evidence of various systems of ranking individuals. Some of these systems are open – where status is achieved through merit or action – and some are closed, meaning they are determined by birth with no hope of social mobility. This seems commonplace to us today and possibly even inevitable.

In addition to a counseling practice, and the webinars and tele-classes for the Shamanic Astrology Mystery School, keeping me involved with the evolution and organic growth of the Shamanic Astrology paradigm, my primary passion has been in the exploration of the ancient pre-horoscopic origins of Shamanic Astrology.

As a lead up to our upcoming Cosmology Intensive, October 7-9, 2014 in Sahuarita, south of Tucson Arizona, I am sharing some thoughts on the always fascinating understandings and misunderstandings regarding the differences between signs and constellations. Plus we will investigate the ongoing controversies about tropical and sidereal zodiacs.

Within the Shamanic Astrology paradigm, Mars symbolizes the Masculine principle in both men and women, and Venus symbolizes the Feminine [Daniel and Moon 2] . We can all pretty much agree that the gender roles that we grew up with in our culture, are useless especially at this Turning of the Ages. There is currently a lot of confusion about what exactly is “masculine” and “feminine.”

Most everyone in contemporary culture is wired to look outside themselves for completion, wholeness, and happiness. There is a longing to find the magical “other”, the soulmate, the twin flame, the beloved. This is not a criticism of this longing, as it motivates even autonomous or renunciate individuals to learn more about themselves through another.

I love Robert Bauval’s books. This is the follow up to the highly provocative Black Genesis, also by the Bauval/Brophy team, that I have mentioned [Imhotep book] during SAMS classes. There is so much in these 2 books that I can only skim the surface here.

Mars in Libra

With the imminent Mars/Sun opposition on April 8, 2014, heralding the beginning of a new synodic cycle of Mars, it’s time to consider the implications. Mars entered Libra on December 7, 2013, and remains in Libra until July 25, 2014, almost an entire 8 months. It is important to note that Mars always stays in a sign a long time when a new synodic cycle is beginning. This happened in 2012 when Mars began a new cycle in Virgo and in 2010 when Mars began a new cycle in Taurus.

Many astrologers run charts for their own, and for their clients, Mars Return. Commonly used, this is a chart of the exact time that transiting Mars returns to its original natal position. This happens about every two years. However, as explained in Part 1 of the Mars Cycle, the far more important Mars Return event occurs when transiting Mars returns to the natal degree when closest to the date and season of one’s birth.
